Arctic Monkeys are a very successful English rock/post-punk band. Formed in 2002 on the outskirts Sheffield by lead singer, Alex Turner, and drummer, Matt Helders. Their debut album was released 4 years after in 2006, it was the fastest selling debut album by a British band in chart history, respectively achieving a place in the magazine 'Rolling Stone's top 30 debut albums of all time. Arctic Monkeys have produced several hits over the past 11 years with songs such as "Fluorescent Adolescent", "505", "Bet that you look good on the dance floor" and " R U mine?" plus several more iconic tracks. They took a break after 2013's AM which was their most recent project as a band. Alex Turner has a very unique look and persona while performing live, during interviews and on talk shows, he seems relatively cool and chilled. he typically wears leather jackets, aviators and slicked back hair - 50s style. He's become very recognizable over the past decade with a different look every album. Turner also says things as they are, he doesn't lie or think he's better than anybody else, he's just him. Alex is also well known for the amount of booze he drinks and cigarettes he smokes. Their music is very unique to anybody in the same genre as them which is a great trait to have as they don't lack in originality.
Eventually, they were signed to Domino in June 2005. The band said they were attracted to the DIY ethic of Domino owner Laurence Bell, who ran the label from his flat and only signed bands that he liked personally. Their first single with Domino was " I bet you look good on the dance floor " it went straight to the number 1 spot on all major UK music charts.
Ever since their first album, they have been extremely popular throughout the UK and the rest of the world. Their post punk, indie sound is catchy and enticing for the wide demographic they have. Their lastest album AM(2013) was seen in the Arctic Monkeys community as the worst album they've made, there is now, in 2017, speculation that they're going to release a new album in the foreseeable future.
Domino records are an independent records company, based in London, UK and were founded in 1993. Since 1993 they have expanded to France, Germany and USA. This allows artists to release their content across some of the biggest musical countries across the world. Domino prefer to work with niche genres and unusual music sounds, they don't nessassary do it for the money but more of the pasion of music and creators. Their biggest creators are Franz Ferdinand and Arctic Monkeys who are both very popular in todays indie community. A former punk rock band "Buzzcocks" were also in a partnership with the records company when they were first founded.
